The objective of this study was to construct and validate the psychometric properties of the willingness to lie scale (EDM-22) in university students' romantic relationships. The participants were 309 university students for the pilot study and 979 university students for the confirmatory study. In the pilot study, content validity was assessed using expert judges, and CFA was performed, revealing a three-dimensional structure. In the confirmatory study, the model presented adequate fit indices (RMSEA = .052 [90% CI .048 – .056]; CFI=.97; TLI=.96) and adequate reliability values in the dimensions: Consensus (α =.83), satisfaction (α =.87), and cohesion (α=.86). An SEM model was proposed to evaluate the latent relationship between the willingness to lie scale and the scales of satisfaction in the couple relationship and self-perceived communication in the couple relationship, which presented adequate fit indices (χ2 = 1738.80; df = 725; p = .000; RMSEA = .038; CFI = .98; TLI = .98). It is concluded that the scale has adequate psychometric properties of validity and reliability in the university context.
